Resilient People (Part 7) – Walking on a foggy road
When we plan our business, we tend to plan the next fife years, eventually even the next decade. Such exercise is never easy, and consequences may be deducted, too: Career, bonus, next assignments, our welfare…
…all may depend on how well we plan. Sandbagging inclusive.
During my life, I worked for several decades in a type of industry where the next fiscal year in normal times is more or less done, and the following years are the interesting one in terms of future growth. Typically, I got interesting tasks about Change and Innovation. And typically, during restructuring and turnaround, bonus schemes of organizations do not fit with such tasks.
The actual crises worldwide show what all we may not consider: Pandemics followed by supply chain interruption followed by conflicts under weapons that interrupt business environments, in coincidence with a change of climate in connection with ideologies and faked information…
…clear sight looks different. I have not met a single organization (including global banks) which had in the worst-case scenarios a global shut-down as a reaction against a pandemic. Nuclear wars seemed to be more realistic than other events.
Resilient people will monitor risks and understand there is no guarantee future will somehow be in line with plans. Building in reaction time, working or organizational flexibility and staying fresh and awake will be mandatory to form a resilient organization. Feel invited to ask for support.
