5P Method (Part 4) Products
Most organizations I worked for understood their product being a chemical or biotechnological derived entity. Travelling with a CAS number, a specification to decide about certain physical or chemical aspects. A product often is more with consequences for the whole organization.
A contract is a promise. The supplier agrees to supply whatever was agreed on time (OT) in full (IF) and in specification (IS) based on the agreed financial conditions. This is why OTIF is not enough and might to be replaced by OTIFIS. Financial conditions are relevant as well, especially in organizations that are under stress.
Products need to be made following certain procedures. To plan production and to perform it is a highly delicate technological process. To improve operational performance many groups in our organization may/will contribute. The balance of power will define decision processes and triggers for decisions. This is a task that will never end. However, supervision is not only relevant but a must, and clarity about perspectives helpful.
I have never worked in an organization that was done with the task. The reason is simple – when we look careful to the last paragraph, it described in interaction of various departments and trainings that are hard to combine – or in other words need excellent management and less egoism than most people bring with them by nature.
If there is a need to proof the relevance of excellent management – here is just another example. The best consultants for such tasks will be those who have successfully managed changes. If you have a need for support, please feel invited to talk.
