The CEO Dilemma
Some people believe, being the CEO of an organization brings unlimited resources and power to an individuum. In most case they are wrong. A CEO is not only bound to the limits of the organization but to the different fields of interests by others, and to the times he is in: In times of rough waters, a CEO will have to deliver different results compared to mild winds blowing up in a great direction.
CEOs must manage the company in a cultural context, too: Depending on the country the organization is based in, and depending on the local political system, management styles must change: What may be seen as a weakness in one country could be seen being rude in a different cultural context. What will be successful in one society can fail in a different culture.
CEOs will be held accountable for strategy and strategy execution. They will be measured by the overall performance of the organization, in most cases equal to financial success and attractiveness. They will have to balance risk, and to balance risk with their own survival. In this context, it´s not too surprising to see how many companies are strictly risk adverse, and not willing to take new roads.
There are few CEOs being known for their painless approach to new products/markets. And there are compromises possible between freezing status quo and well-tempered appetite for risk. Feel invited to talk to us for more insights.
